The Need for Personal Growth

personal growth
More than ever we are in need of Personal Growth on a global level. We are in dire straits because of a general worldwide lack of knowledge and awareness of what’s possible when we create extraordinary lives for ourselves and each other. We can all contribute to the one world community and make the planet a bet ter place. The norm has been people who spread negative news, promote fast food and pharmaceutical concoctions rather than address the cause of real life issues.

We have been trained, to varying degrees, to obey authority, work hard, and to speak when called on. The educational system instills an early model for learning that conditions our behavior as adults. Some of you may be going through life, day-in and day-out, just working hard, watching TV, eating junk food, and falling into bed at night. You may be living on autopilot rather than directing your energies and living life to its fullest.

Think about it: You are the producer, director, and actor of the movie called your life. To live an outstanding life, which includes doing what you love and being all you can be, you need to be proactive and deliberate on designing your destiny.

Today’s world demands that powerful people step up and take a stand for what’s important. Together we can challenge systems that no longer serve us and create new structures that will be designed more effectively to set us up for success.

The quality of our lives depends on us and how we choose to live. The choices we make ultimately shape our lives and many of us are waking up to this fact. With movies such as What The Bleep Do We Know!?™ and The Secret, people are becoming aware that there is more to life than what meets the eye. The Power of Personal Growth offers you significant awareness and knowledge so you can make empowering choices to positively impact your life.

What Does Personal Growth Mean to You?

personal growth
Everyone defines Personal Growth in his or her own terms. It is amazing how many people refer to it as a journey, while others look at it as an evolution.

A group of individuals and industry leaders have generously shared what personal growth means to them. There is so much wisdom in each and every one of their statements—a richness of experience in life that helps us understand who we are and why we are here.

Here are some of them:

“Personal Growth is the pursuit of positive activities, experiences, and education: The process expands your consciousness and opens you up to possibilities far beyond your currently perceived limits and boundaries.” ~ Kathryn Arnold ~

“…A constant examination of what is and isn’t working in your life, and an exploration of new ways of being to achieve a fulfilling life, which is composed of health, wealth, love, and personal self-expression.” ~ Matthew Britt ~

“We are alive, and if we aren’t growing we are dying. Make sure you’re growing! Lifelong learning and striving for growth are the secrets to life.” ~ Debbie Hoogestraat ~

“The willingness and ability to look at life situations head on and to make informed choices is empowering. Instead of making decisions based on fear and negative past experiences, everybody

can learn new strategies to succeed each day. At the heart of the matter are growth and change.” ~ Eric Turiansky ~

“Discovering who we are is a lifelong pursuit. The process embraces the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual aspects of ourselves. It is the journey, not the destination!” ~ Monika Zands. ~

“The study of the self is both an internal and external experience. The gamut of lessons we learn along the way shows us how to break habits and patterns so we expand from what we think is available to us or possible in our lives.” ~ Lee Lam ~

“Living more fully means the ability to open yourself up to the possibility that you are capable of more than you are currently doing. It is about recognizing the frustration you feel about where you are in your life, the negative and positive feelings you have about yourself, and knowing that there is more about you that

you haven’t developed yet.” ~ Korby Waters ~

Personal growth is about possibility, focusing on what you want, and living your full potential. Personal growth is in the process of being commonly understood and accepted in society. Many of us have been enjoying its value for years, while some of us may be learning about the benefits of personal growth for the first time. I ask that you start exploring what personal growth means to you as you enjoy making it a way of life.

Top 10 Profound Health Benefits of Yoga

yoga
Anmol Mehta asked:

Yoga is currently taking its final exam. Even though this science dates back many thousands of years, it has only recently come to the West. This is where Yoga is being empirically tested.

The Western mind demands results and evidence, if none are produced, the system does not survive. This is a valuable approach and Yoga is currently being put though the rigors of this process. So far Yoga is passing with flying colors. Don’t get me wrong, its not that the East did not expect that, its just that this approach filters out the fraudulent and frivolous methodologies, which might otherwise survive simply because of superstition and fear, and the East is just as happy that this is being done as the West. This scrutinizing process results in separating the stones from the diamonds and the diamond that is Yoga is starting to shine though bright and clear.

Over the last three to four decades a great deal of research has been done by the medical community and they now, more and more, recognize the health benefits of Yoga. Below, I will highlight the top 10 health benefits that Yoga bestows and I hope it will inspire all of you to take up this wonderful practice is some capacity and reap the rich rewards as well.

The health benefits have been divided into 3 categories. The Physical Health Benefits of Yoga, Emotional Health Benefits of Yoga and the Mental Health Benefits of Yoga. A short explanation is given along with each benefit to help you understand better the mechanisms that Yoga employs to bestow it.

Physical Health Benefits of Yoga:

1. Energy: Yoga exercises, breath control training (pranayama) and use of yoga body locks (bandhas) all work to activate and balance your energy pathways, giving you the vitality and power you need to maximize your potential.

2. Strength: By strength here we don’t just mean physical muscular strength, although that will benefit greatly as well due to the steady holding of yoga poses and the exercises that yoga incorporates, but also the strength of your internal physiological systems. Strength of your immune system, nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system, reproductive system, etc.

3. Healing: The power of Yoga to heal ailments and cure diseases is becoming more and more an integral part of mainstream medical practice and treatment methods. This ability of Yoga to heal also promotes longevity.

4. Flexibility: Yoga postures (asanas) are perhaps the best type of exercises you can do to improve flexibility. Flexibility is essential for avoiding injuries as well as for the health of the joints, tendons and muscles.

Emotional Health Benefits of Yoga:

5. Peace: Yoga meditations and practice methodology promotes a greater awareness and appreciation of the present moment, which calms the mind and allows the peace deep within to surface.

6. Joy: With the maturing of a Yoga practice, the beauty and depth of life become more apparent and the spontaneous joy of existence emerges.

7. Compassion: Yoga values and philosophy, along with the practice of yoga meditations, dissolves one’s ego-centric reality, thus developing other mindedness, thoughtfulness, generosity and compassion.

Mental Health Benefits of Yoga:

8. Brain Development: Yoga breathing exercises and yoga meditations develop parts of the brain that are normally dormant. Once these parts are activated the power of intuition, as well as other latent powers are unleashed. In addition as the brain develops so does your intelligence and clarity of thoughts.

9. Concentration: The requirement of many Yoga meditations to keep the mind focused on a single object or mantra (sound vibrations), helps to dramatically increase your power of concentration and focused attention.

10. Awareness: Yoga can simply be called the Science of Awareness. This is its primary purpose. To refine and increase awareness so that you can penetrate the veil of the ordinary dualistic mind and encounter your Divine Nature within.

There is Only One Person You Can Change or Improve in the Universe and That Person is You

personal growth
E A SUCCESFUL LIFE BY CHANGING YOUR PERSONALITY

‘ You are what you eat”‘ so the saying goes. Your physical body is made by what you eat. In the same way to achieve spiritual growth you need to feed your mind and spirit with the proper diet that is the material you read, what you listen to and what you believe in.

There is only one person you can change or improve in the universe and that person is you. God gave us the power of choice and you can choose to have a pleasant personality.

Do this small exercise: Close your eyes for at least a minute and visualize what kind of a person you would like to be. Then write down whatever emerges and practice it for today only.

Try to get an accurate picture in your mind, even if you consider it’s fulfillment in reality impossible. You must develop within you a new knowing that you have the capacity through your spiritual self to create any change that you can conceive of for yourself. To change your mentality, you have to first create space in your mind by getting rid of the self limiting beliefs that have been instilled in you and that you have entertained for long. Once you have gotten rid of this beliefs then you can relearn new ways of thinking. Remember as a man Thinketh so he is.

The beliefs you have to get rid of are summarised below :

1. I cannot change this is me and that’s the way I am instead have a ‘can do it attitude’: It took me some time to get rid of this habit. I would constantly tell my husband that is the way I am and it almost cost me my marriage. I was a hard nut to crack, but then I realised I wasn’t hurting him but myself. If you find yourself believing that you must always be the way you are, you are arguing with growth.

I also thought I was introvert and I was so fearful of almost everything including speaking to people in any gathering. I would come late and leave early to avoid contact with people, I didn’t even have friends except my sisters and maybe if there is an area in life where we would meet more often then you would be my friend. But after so much soul searching and reading books especially Dr Wayne Dyer and Steve Pavillana I changed my way of thinking and it bore fruits. I have many friends and I’m more courageous and I believe I add value to the people I meet.

You must create a knowing within that you have the power to create whatever kind of a person you want to become, in all areas of your life.

You were not borne a coward, shy or even an angry person but very empty and these characteristics developed as you met and socialised with family and friends. Being Kind, Generous, bold, Loving and other good virtues can be developed right now in your life. Take a day at a time. Try today to be different that is all that you wish to be and see the change coming in. All things are possible through Christ who give us strength.

2. The second self defeating belief you need to get rid of is ” It’s in my genes, I inherited it from…. its in our blood there is nothing I can do about it

Some time back at home, My only brother was very difficult and we wondered where he would have picked the habit of drinking and smoking from apart from his peers. But then we concluded that relatives from my dad’s side at that age got difficult and out of hand. We started giving examples of relatives we knew who were just like my brother and thought we had solved the problem by believing it was hereditary.

My advise on this issue is that let your inheritance be physical only and not spiritual. Do not blame it on the genes. The spirit has no limitation but our bodies do. You can have your mother eye’s, your father’s nose or your grandmother’s ears and let it stop at that.

When it comes to personal growth you can never inherit you choose to believe or to be like another.

In my country Kenya, there is a belief that there are three tribes that are short tempered, the Kisii’s(my tribe) The Kuria and Merus. You do not mess around with anyone from this three tribes or else you are dead meat. Well it’s a belief and so many have adopted this and needless to say they live in misery.

What is it that you have inherited that is limiting you. Get rid of it today!

Search within yourself and write down all the inherited habits in you and work towards eliminating them each day and see yourself grow to greater heights.

Do not forget that God is part of the change in you. Remember what Jesus said. ‘ If you obey my commandments My father and I will dwell in you, therefore be assured that Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.’

3. My family made me who I am today: So many people put blame on the way they were raised. I heard of a story of a son who became a thief and when he was finally caught for committing robbery with violence he was sentenced to death. He made a wish that he wanted to see his mother, his wish was granted and when his mother came, he told her he wanted to whisper something in her ears but instead he bit her so hard that the ear hang almost loose from the side. The reason he did this was because his mother did not teach him well or try to stop him whenever he did wrong.

Other people have grown up in poverty and due to the scarcity mind they become rough and even at times violent. Others who have grown in physical wealth have become arrogant and all this blame it on their upbringing.

It is time you realised that you will reap what you sow and not what your parents sowed in you. You cannot continue living a blame game and knowing that you have no role to play over your growth and change. As long as you are convinced that your family is responsible for the kind of person that you are today, you are trapped in that cycle. In as much as you cannot eliminate the influences that were very much your childhood, you and you alone decide whether they persist. If your family influences your behavior then you are not in control, they are controlling you and this could be disastrous to you because human beings are mortal beings and one day when they are gone you will have no one to look up to or blame for your attitude or behavior except yourself. We don’t want that time to come and that is why you have to take full charge of your life today and shake off any family influences that will destroy you.

4. My society, culture and times determines my personality. If you go by the waves and current trends, you are in for big trouble because you will never know who you are and define yourself as an individual in the society.

Who is your role mode, why are you living someone else life doing what they do, talking and walking like them and even dressing like them. You should take time from all these waves and trends to know who you are and your purpose in life otherwise time will go past very fast and before you know it you will be regretting abut everything.Everyone who has ever made a difference in the world has been an innovator. An innovator does not look at the cultural norms but looks within and allows his/her conscience and commitment to a purpose.Your thinking is yours, originating with you, the society in which you find yourself is simply the stage upon which you are acting out your miracles.

Yoga Instructor Training – Yoga For Cancer Recovery

yoga
Paul M. Jerard Jr. asked:

Yoga cannot replace the medical treatment that cancer survivors must experience. However, gentle, restorative yoga speeds the recovery process and provides therapeutic healing to a ravaged body.

Cancer does not discriminate, and strikes young and old with impunity. The good thing about yoga is that it offers an appropriate therapy, exercise program, and even life path, for anyone young, old, or in between. The benefits go far beyond improved flexibility and relaxation. Yoga sets cancer survivors on the road to healing, with a life-centered focus and a real way to cope.

Health care facilities, around the world, are now incorporating yoga therapy into their cancer recovery centers. Medical professionals are beginning to recognize the extraordinary benefits yoga provides to patients. The difficult road of recovery back from cancer is not always lit well enough within basic clinical care. Yoga focuses on the union of mind, body, breath, emotion, and spirit, to finally give cancer survivors a holistic leg to stand on.

People recovering, from most types of cancer, share at least a few maladies. Fatigue is the most common. Any time the body is subjected to high stress situations, such as – surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy and pain, fatigue is an obvious result.

As part of the recovery process – The body has been fighting a disease and then fighting to heal. Regular yoga practice will increase energy levels, and allow those recovering from cancer, to feel able again. Yoga postures strengthen and tone core muscles in the body. This low-impact movement also improves circulation and mobility.

The particular postures and yoga routine, that will help someone recovering from cancer, will be prescribed on an individual basis. There are many types of cancers, and what may benefit one recovery, or individual, may not be as effective in the case of another. That is why highly trained, and expert yogis, are so important for therapeutic yoga and cancer recovery. Knowledge of particular healing or therapeutic properties, of each posture, breathing method, and other yogic healing aspects, is indispensable.

Pranayama, or yoga breathing, focuses on specific breathing exercises that invoke relaxation and enhance optimum recovery. Yoga instruction often employs guided relaxation, meditation, breath awareness, visualization techniques, and guided breathing exercises.

Students are guided to find a peaceful place, where they release their anxiety and pain. Pranayama techniques also have an extremely beneficial impact on the nervous system. Focused breathing brings calm to the mind and body, allowing for healing. Stress is the number one enemy to effective healing.

As with many ailments, yoga students, recovering from cancer, often suffer from decreased range of movement. Along with increasing muscle strength, yoga postures improve range of movement and flexibility. Posture is also improved, allowing proper body alignment and balance. With freer movement and mobility, cancer survivors will begin to grow lighter in spirit and feel more independent.

Yoga for cancer recovery should focus on providing the most benefit possible. This means patients should not push past the point of pain. The important thing for anyone to remember, who has been through a serious medical procedure, is to begin slowly. Perform the yoga poses in a way that is comfortably challenging. There will be some discomfort on the road to recovery. Steadily press forward, and find the internal limits, but avoid approaching the pain threshold.

Yoga instructors need to remember that yoga therapy requires adapting yoga practice to individual needs. Each student’s case will be different. Each class period will be different. Teachers must also learn to be healers and “go the extra mile” for any student recovering from cancer.

Those recovering from cancer, who choose yoga practice to assist their healing, will benefit greatly across the board. In addition to regular yoga practice, pay close attention to diet and nutrition. Yoga nutrition focuses on natural, whole foods that support the body’s functions. Support your body in every possible way to make a complete recovery when healing from cancer.
