Personal Growth: Where to Start

personal growth
Life is all about being happy.

When I say ‘being happy’, I’m not referring to the two hours on a Saturday night you’re shooting pool, hanging with friends and enjoying life! I’m talking about holistic happiness, or addressing many different areas that will make your life feel more fulfilled – personal growth. When you enjoy where you are at, you feel like things have come together the way they should. To live in this state is really to enjoy living, and you can start to head in that direction today.

Sometimes we reach a point in life where we are coasting. We get up, make lunches, drive to work, go about the day and come home looking forward to the weekend. Some of us play sport or go to church, but really we’re just on autopilot. Take some time now and do a bit of self-analysis. Think about the many parts of life that make up ‘you’ – do you need to work on an area?

If you really want to initiate personal growth in your life, and make some real changes that make a difference, start by looking at the following 7 areas:

Family and relationships: your family and relationships need to rank very highly on your ‘how to spend my time’ list. Are your relationships as solid as they need to be? Maybe you need to spend more time appreciating your loved ones.. Personal growth and fulfillment is very difficult to achieve if you are a selfish person who neglects people close to you. Whether you’re married, have a boyfriend/girlfriend, kids, whatever!  Make time to spend with your family & make them an important part of your life.

Work: are you happy with your job? Think back to when you were a child, or in high school. What kinds of dreams and ambitions did you have? Have you realised those dreams or are you ‘comfortable’ with where you are at? It’s very difficult to start a new job or career. Sometimes it means more study, relocating, starting over – but let me tell you something. You only live one life – don’t let it go by & have a life full of regrets. You can do a job that you enjoy! Sure, you don’t have to absolutely love driving to work every day, but if you don’t enjoy what you do to any degree then it’s time to get out! You really can and should change your line of work if you want to be happier in your life. If you’re not sure where to start, make some calls – talk to people who are doing a job you’re interested in & find out how they started. Call some universities or look up courses you’re interest in & find out about enrollment. Make some calls today.

Leisure: are you taking some time out for you? Ambition and hard work are very important qualities, but relaxing and leisure will do so much for your emotional and physical well being. Some great family memories also come about from holidays – don’t neglect this area of your life.

Emotions: keep your emotions in check. Are you a person that often feels depressed or anxious? Maybe you have a short fuse & yell at the kids when you find food spilled on the ground.. When you truly reflect on your emotions and reactions, how much of a positive influence are they in your life? Spend some time reflecting on the way you respond to situations & your feelings and emotions in general. Start to make some changes where you see the need for change – you can research this very easily, the point is your life will not feel very fulfilled when you can’t control your own emotions. Again – life is too short to be yelling your head off at people. It’s no good for them, and it’s worse for you – control yourself & you will enjoy life more.

Spiritual: holistic health and personal growth is all about addressing many different areas of your life. Just because you may not go to church, or have been burnt by past experience, don’t neglect this area of your life. You will find you have a lot less ‘meaning of life’ questions when you address your spiritual well being. Start with prayer – pray for your loved ones. Pray for yourself! Cast off your cares and worries, and be specific with what you ask for. You will be surprised at the great results in your life.

Physical: If you are someone who is obese, stop pretending life has dealt you a hard blow. No it hasn’t, everyone has problems! Some people gamble, others have addictions. You’ve put on weight. But, you can do something about it! Don’t accept being overweight a minute longer. Start with your food choices – make healthy choices for this week, all week. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, drink lots of water. Get rid of the chips/chocolate/lollies and soft drink in your house. Start to make some simple changes and you will find it gets easier and easier. Regardless of your body size, everyone needs to exercise. It’s great for your stress levels, your health and fitness, and your overall well being. You can start by grabbing an ipod and going out for a walk – don’t think about it, just do it. Make plans to do it again in 2 days time. Don’t get slack, keep exercising!

Money: money is not the key to happiness! You will not be a happier person just because you are ‘rich’. Winning the lottery will not mean you can suddenly sigh with relief and put your feet up for the rest of your life. However, lack of money or limited finances can be a great source of stress and worry. You need to make sure you have a steady stream of income that is enough to cover bills, housing, food, basic requirements + include some leisure time for yourself. What can you do if you don’t make enough money? Start to do something about it. Research other avenues for income, talk to friends and family about ways to earn money on the side. Change to a higher paying job. Learn about budgeting, saving, investing. Don’t be obsessed with making money or let it consume your life – money is not everything after all.

No changes will happen in your life if you are content with where you are at now, or if you stay on autopilot and coast through life.

If you really want to make some changes and achieve personal growth, the only thing stopping you is YOU. So start right now – get your attitude right, start addressing the areas outlined above, and you will feel a lot more fulfilled in life.

2 Things We Cannot Teach Employees: Judgment and Personality Development

personal growth
Copyright © 2008 Ed Bagley

We can teach people a lot of things, but there are two things we cannot teach people, potential hires or employeesjudgment and personality development.

Judgment is an interesting trait because the only way you can acquire judgment is by making judgments. Unfortunately, in the reality of life, some people simply have better judgment than others.

If you think the bank and financial lenders at the biggest companies in the United States always have good judgment, you are dead wrong. Their judgment can be terrible. Look at the recent subprime lending that was fueled by greed rather than good judgment. Just because the CEO of a company makes more judgments (or decisions), it does not mean that he or she makes good judgments (or decisions). People either have good judgment or they DO NOT, just as you are pregnant or not pregnant; there is no in-between.

Remember, too, that there can be a huge difference between having good judgment and being judgmental. Sometimes it is hard to forget your past. People can be judgmental about someone else’s ideas or opinions when their credibility is not on the line, but change like a chameleon when THEY are responsible for making a judgment.

Personality development cannot be taught because it is not driven by professional development (adding more college degrees, specialized training, seminars or one-on-one help). Personality development is driven not by professional growth but by personal growth.

This is why it is so difficult to take a bigoted person and change his or her attitude about racial issues. A bigoted man may well be as prejudiced on the day he dies as the day he decided to look down on someone or question their ability because of the color of their skin.

Personal growth is 100 times more difficult to achieve than professional growth because it requires that you not only learn or become aware of new information, but that you also willingly change your thought process and belief system. People CAN change but most people choose not to.

A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. A woman convinced against her will is of the same opinion still.

The next two sentences are very important to know and understand: When we blame others, we give up our ability to change. If you lack the will for change, there is no one who can show you the way (that includes Jesus Christ himself).

You will rise higher faster by achieving more personal growth than professional growth. Many potential hires and employees have enough education to become successful. Many can also handle any necessary training required to become successful. Few, however, manage to achieve more personal growth than professional growth and remain stuck in their current position.

Personal Development Starts With Self Esteem

personal growth
If we want to attain any goal, achieve any aim or reach any objective we all know that we need a large amount of confidence. We need confidence in ourselves, the plan we are using and our own abilities to work that plan. However, self confidence is merely a by-product of high self esteem but do we really know what that is or how to get it?

Self esteem begins with a positive self-image. This involves holding a balanced yet loving, approving and healthy self-view. However, it is not arrogance nor is it narcissism. True self esteem gives us a balanced realistic appreciation for our own talents. It allows us honest introspection of our strengths and a complete acceptance of our human limitations. High self esteem is a reflection of the true value in which you hold yourself. It also frees you from any overtly polarised view of others and how you perceive they think of you.

Individuals with high self esteem have a strong sense of themselves. They know who they are and what they want. They have a realistic world view of others and themselves. Their self-image is positive but also very rational.

However, do not think that people with high self esteem always feel great and proud of themselves. Self esteem is about having a balanced view of yourself. Everyone makes mistakes and people with high self-esteem are no exception. They also behave in ways or make decisions that they later wish they hadn’t. The key difference with these people is that they recover quickly make the changes they need to make, apologize for their behaviour where necessary and learn from the experience. Individuals who have developed a healthy degree of self-esteem are able to use these situations as a form of feedback and learn from them. It is alright to feel bad about their behaviour and make atonement for it but they do not let it effect their entire sense of identity nor do they carry it with them as emotional baggage.

If you are rude or aggressive with a person it doesn’t mean you are a terrible person or should be punished in some way. People with high self esteem are aware of this. These people are capable to taking full responsibility for their behaviour, admitting that it was undesirable. They will then try to make the situation “right” before they learn from it and put it behind them. They do not see themselves as bad people, just a good person that made a bad mistake. However, people with low self esteem tend to pile blame on themselves and think themselves unworthy and unlovable because they are “so bad” and “so unworthy and worthless”. They think because they have behaved badly it is a reflection of the total person they are when, in fact, it is only one portion of the complex personality they have. If you have high self esteem and you exhibit behaviour you yourself don’t like you tend to work on the problem until you either eradicate it or reverse it. People with high self esteem can do this relatively easily because they don’t see a change in one aspect of their character as an assault on their whole personality! So they can still have self criticism but also have high self-esteem at the same time.

A key to being in this mental and emotional state is to avoid generalising about mistakes made by ourselves and others, recognising that our weaknesses are part of who we are, while recognising that some of our behaviour can be changed without it affecting our sense of identity!

So start to see yourself as those who love you see you. Ask them what they think. Ask them to be realistic and to point out your good characteristics. Then take stock of yourself and start to believe in yourself. You can develop the skills needed to be critical of yourself, in order to learn and grow, while at the same time realizing that you are a unique, special, loving yet slightly flawed child of the Universe. You are wonderful. Accept that!

Natural Growth Hormone Supplements

personal growth
Natural growth hormone supplements- help for the weary world

A hormone is a naturally occurring substance that is actually a chemical messenger for our body, helping it go about daily tasks everyday. A natural growth hormone is one that is responsible for the overall development and sustenance of normal body functioning for persons and while these natural growth hormones are comprised of amino acids that produced in the endocrine glands to stimulate certain activities, their job doesn’t end there. Let us learn more about these hard working natural growth hormones and the role they play in helping us about our daily needs.

Natural growth hormones facilitate optimum body performance and determine muscle, tissue and cell functioning

The endocrine gland produces the natural growth hormone and proceeds to send it all through the body through the blood stream so that it helps our body maintain optimum performance levels for various task like eating, walking, sleeping. One prime example of a natural growth hormone is Insulin, which helps the human body digest food while others decide on the limitations of factors such as scope of bodily growth, digestion, reproduction and sexual functions. Thus, we find that the natural growth hormones play an integral role in ensuring peak performance of a person, especially during adolescence when there is maximum production of HGH, the human growth hormone occurring naturally in the body. Beyond the age of 22, the is considerable decline in the production levels of the natural growth hormone with the pituitary gland, one of the endocrine glands, situated in the center of the brain, producing less of this highly complex hormone. What makes the HGH a natural growth hormone that is immensely complex is the number of amino acids it takes to function (all of 191 amino acids) – a rather large number for any protein produced by the pituitary.

Adolescence is the time when the body needs to grow and the secretion of natural growth hormones like HGH helps it to do so. However, beyond adulthood, falling HGH levels and the slackness of the natural growth hormone production ability of the pituitary gland makes for lesser hormones in our body, which has tremendous impact on our physical and mental abilities. This is the main reason why many people are keen to try out the numerous supplements and synthetic solutions as a replacement means for the lack of natural growth hormones, but such persons are best warned to first learn about the costs (not just financial but physiological as well) of ordering a substitute for this natural deficiency.

Benefits of safe and real HGH enhancers: natural growth hormone replacement and acceleration aids

The availability of real HGH and homeopathic HGH sprays, powders and pills is a welcome deal for those looking to boost natural growth hormone production without the negative side-effects and exorbitant costs of synthetic enhancers or injections. Real HGH supplements are a blend of all natural growth hormones and replicate the role naturally occurring HGH would have played in keeping metabolism and energy levels high; increasing the body’s ability to burn fat, hold on to lean muscle mass and not fat while combating wrinkles, greater libido and great looking hair and skin are other advantages of high natural growth hormones levels.

Speech Development- 18 month old daughter is behind. Any advice? Personal experiences?

personal development
half_cowgirl_half_angel asked:

My daughter, who is very bright in all other aspects, is behind in her speech development. I read that at this age that she should be saying 6-10 words, but the only “word” she really says is “bye-bye”. She communicates with gestures mostly, like using the gesture I always did when I would ask her “all done?”. Instead of saying dog, she pants like our dogs do. She “talks” all the time, and her inflection is right on, as if she was talking, but in a language I just don’t understand. If she’s angry, sad, happy, etc., her inflections and pitch are right. We’re 99.9% sure it is not a hearing problem.

One theory is that she regressed when my son was born. They are a year apart. Anyone with kiddos this close together, please let me know your experience. She is an excellent problem-solver and very smart in every other aspect, but she babbles like a baby, and it is very frustrating. Would playing with other kids her age or slightly older help motivate her to talk? Ideas, advice???
As far as other developments such as crawling, walking, etc, she was very ahead the usual timeline. And I do make it a point to talk to her all the time. I have a little brother 10 years younger than me who was born with a minor cleft palate, and I was taught how to talk to him to teach him how to talk and speak properly when he was a baby. Another reason this is SO frustrating! My aunt is a speech pathologist, but 1500 miles away unfortuantely. We are going to ask for a speech referral at her next doctor appointment this month, but curious to hear other parents’ experiences and what worked for them.
