As a matter of timing, it looks like the Senate Bill isn’t going anywhere this year. It definitely won’t until after November. Pence has another plan (you can look it up on his web site) which I also personally disagree with, but it is the other thing, besides the House and Senate Bills that is being discussed right now.
As for me, if we fix the problem and get REAL border security and enforcement (not what Bush wants), I would go for screened amnesty of only those present, but not to bring in family except under existing quotas.
Our schools are already failing in our border states. On the other hand, I can’t see us steeling ourselves to years of mass deportations of cub scouts, honors students and PTA volunteers.
I think that after elections will be the first real discussions and I suspect it will be on a totally new Bill.
